Macomb County's mineral waters made the Mount Clemens bath house business a mainstay of the economy from 1873 to 1942. It was 1917 when Selfridge Field (now the Selfridge National Guard Base) started training pilots, and when the Chrysler Tank Plant was built in Warren. Macomb County became a major part of World War II production. After the war the economic base diversified into automobile, missile, metal and chemical production.
