| The Pontiac Silverdome -looking from the south. It's been
home for the Detroit Lions since 1976. The ramp on the
right is sloped and difficult, even for NFL football players,
to walk up on an icy day. The Silverdome is three miles
south of The Palace, where the Detroit Pistons basketball
and the Detroit Vipers hockey clubs are based. Notice in
the upper right corner of the parking lot the initials "SL".
How'd you do that? |
Hang on to your hat and to this classic picture. After a dispute with the city of Pontiac, it was announced this year by the
owners the Lions would leave this 20 year old facility. They will relocate to one of two new side-by-side stadiums in
downtown Detroit. Plans call for the new football stadium not to be covered. The stadium for the Tigers will be covered.
You can keep track of the construction progress of those new stadiums (and the new Detroit casinos and new 1 mile oval
auto race track at the fair grounds) through our "aerial" photos here on AirSho in the months ahead. Please thank our
sponsors for making this possible.
