| Wayne County Michigan The history of the area is tied to Detroit. In 1760 the British ruled the Northwest Territory. After the Revolutionary War Detroit became an American Post. Around this time General Anthony Wayne, a famous Indian fighter, came to Detroit. He permitted his name to be given to the new county. The city had a population of 21,000 in 1850. Shipping was it's most important industry. When the railroads arrived they brought lumber, iron, copper, and farm products, as well as immigrants. Just before 1900 the first auto factory was opened in Detroit. So began the areas claim to international fame as the "motor capitol of the world...Motown". Located here: The Renaissance Center, Belle Isle, Fort Wayne, Greenfield Village, the Henry Ford Museum and soon to be new stadiums for the Detroit Lions, Tigers. Casino gambling was recently approved, with 2 billion dollars to be invested in casinos by MGM, Circus Circus and an indian tribe in Michigan. |
